Description

School boards establish a vision for the community's schools that reflects a consensus of the board, community and district staff. The school board has a wide variety of additional responsibilities, such as adopting a balanced annual budget and issuing interim financial reports, adopting the school calendar, negotiating contracts with employees, approving curriculum materials and closing or constructing schools.

Application Guidelines
If you would like to be included on the ballot for school board, follow these three steps. 1) Contact the county school superintendent. The superintendent can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer questions regarding petitions and other ballot procedures. 2) Arrange to pick up required paperwork. 3) Return your completed paperwork within the designated filing window. You must file a statement forming a political committee—or, for those who will raise less than $500, an exemption statement—before conducting any campaigning, including circulating nomination petitions.
