Description

School Boards establish a vision for the community's schools that reflects a consensus of the board, community and district staff. The school board has a wide variety of additional responsibilities, such as adopting a balanced annual budget and issuing interim financial reports, adopting the school calendar, negotiating contracts with employees, approving curriculum materials and closing or constructing schools.

Application Guidelines
If you would like to be included on the ballot for city school board, follow these three steps. 1) Contact the city elections official--usually the city clerk. They can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer any questions regarding petitions or other ballot procedures. 2) Arrange to pick up required paperwork from the city elections office. Many first-time candidates arrange an appointment with elections staff at this point. 3) Return your completed paperwork within the designated filing window. Note that all candidates for elected office must submit a statement of economic interests to the Alabama Ethics Commission on the same day that they file paperwork with the city elections official or become a candidate by meeting the fundraising threshold.
