Description
The Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota serves as the second highest ranking executive state official in North Dakota. Primary responsibilities include: serving as the head of the state senate (including tie-breaking power), assisting on the state administrative board, and assisting the governor by appearing at any necessary meetings or appearances. The lieutenant governor is elected along with the governor on a joint ballot and is from the same party. The Lieutenant Governor is charged with filling in for the Governor when he/she is not able to serve or otherwise absent. The Lieutenant Governor serves a four-year term with no term limits. The salary of this position is $94,461.
