Description
The Commission-Manager form of government governs Boynton Beach. Voters elect a mayor and four commissioners who meet twice monthly to set forth City policy. The Commission appoints a City Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the City. The Mayor may live anywhere within the City limits, but is required to reside in the City for a least a year before seeking office. Commissioners must live within the district they represent and are elected by the voters within that district. They also are required to live within the district they plan to represent for at least a year before seeking office.
Application Guidelines
In order to be a candidate for this position, please follow these three simple steps: 1) Contact the election administrator (for city/town/village positions the city clerk, and for all others, the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections) to make sure you qualify for the position. Certain positions have residency, professional certification, and other requirements. 2) Fill out the necessary documents, which may include the Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository (DS-DE9) Statement of Candidacy (DS-DE 84 form) with the qualifying officer, and Candidate Oath of Nonpartisan Office (DS-DE 25). WARNING: Some filings may only be accepted until noon on the day filing ends, so contact the election administrator to verify the time filing closes. Some positions may requre a candidacy fee. Be mindful about the filing window as it is often brief and late papers will not be accepted.
