Description

The Cuyahoga County Council is an 11-member body elected by residents of each council district. The Council makes policy decisions for the effective functioning of County government, and is a link between government agencies and citizens. It has legislative and taxing authority for the County, and is a co-equal branch of the County government with the executive branch. Each member serves a term of two to four years in office.

Application Guidelines
In order to be a candidate for this position, you must be a resident of the County for at least the previous 12 months. Please follow these three simple steps in order to ensure a smooth application process: 1. Contact the election administrator at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to make sure that you qualify for this position. Refer to the Ohio Candidate Requirement Guide on page 16 regarding governing petitions and verify key points and documents for your application: http://www.sos.state.oh.us/SOS/Upload/publications/election/2014/2014_CRG.pdf 2. Fill out the necessary documents, including the Statement of Candidacy, Nomination Petition, (if you are running for a partisan position) and the Circulator’s Statement. Please visit the following website and locate the appropriate document, (pertaining to the position you are running for) to obtain an electronic PDF of all necessary documents necessary: http://www.sos.state.oh.us/sos/elections/electionsofficials/forms.aspx. 3. In order to be qualified for the ballot, all documents must be physically filed with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections office located at 2925 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44115. The office is open from 8am till 4:30pm, Monday through Friday with the exception of holidays. You must pay a filing fee with your Statement of Candidacy petition. Please contact the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to find out the filing fee for your intended position. Please be mindful about the filing window deadline, as they are strictly enforced. As a position participating in a primary election, you must file no later than 90 days before the day of your primary election. If you are running for an office that is partisan, you may file your petition as an independent candidate as late as the day before the primary date. Since the primary dates across Cuyahoga County vary, it is crucial to determine when your primary date will be held. The filing application window begins in mid-december, the year before the election.
