Description

Denver is a consolidated city-county with a mayor elected on a nonpartisan ballot. Denver is the capital and most populous municipality in Colorado. The mayor can approve or veto any ordinances or resolutions approved by the council, make sure all contracts with the city are kept and performed, sign all bonds and contracts, is responsible for the city budget, and can appoint people to various city departments, organizations, and commissions. The starting salary for Mayor is $163,000.

In order to be a candidate for this position, please follow these three simple steps: 1) Contact the election administrator (Denver Elections Division) to make sure you qualify for the position. Certain positions have residency and other requirements. 2) Fill out the necessary documents, including the Municipal Candidate Affidavit, Statement of Political Committee Organization, Political Committee Treasurer Affidavit, and Candidate Financial Disclosure Statement. The office is open Mondays to Fridays from 8am to 5pm MST. Be mindful about the filing window as it is open for only five consecutive days sometime in March, and the dates vary based on the election date.
