Description

The Ventura County Clerk issues marriage licenses, performs civil marriage ceremonies, processes fictitious business name filings, and provides for the qualification and registration of notaries, process servers and miscellaneous statutory oaths and other filings. All functions of the office are conducted under provisions of the State Constitution and County Codes.The Ventura County Recorder is responsible for the recording of deeds, deeds of trust, court decrees and other documents affecting title to real property in Ventura County. The division also maintains Uniform Commercial Code filings: subdivision maps and, vital statistics including birth, death and marriages within the county. This Division also creates digital images of real property and vital records and provides and maintains an efficient retrieval system to support public for this information. All functions of the office are conducted under provisions of the State Constitution and County Codes. The clerk-recorder serves a term of 4 years and the salary of this position is $160,615.

It is understood that first time or beginning candidates may need someone to review the paperwork with them, so it is useful to stop by the office in person during normal business hours, or arrange a time that you can speak with someone while picking up the filing papers. The California Secretary of State's Elections Division is also a great resource and can be reached at (916) 657-2166 or http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections 3) Submit the filing papers within 113-88 days prior to the election (most California elections use the 113-88 day filing window). You will then be able to appear on the ballot! This county position goes through a June primary, meaning that this June date is the first election for candidates that want to appear on the ballot. If a candidate wins the June primary by a simple majority vote (more than 50%), that candidate will be elected into office for this position. If no candidate wins a simple majority vote in the June primary, the top two vote getters will advance to the November general election. In this case, the candidate with more votes in the November general election will be elected into office for this position.
