Application Guidelines
To file for this position follow these three simple steps: 1) Contact the Ventura County Elections Division at (805) 654-2664 to verify that your address qualifies for the position and that you meet any other candidacy requirements (for example, living within the district for a specified amount of time prior to the election). 2) Obtain the correct filing papers from the county elections office. It is understood that first time or beginning candidates may need someone to review the paperwork with them, so it is useful to stop by the office in person during normal business hours, or arrange a time that you can speak with someone while picking up the filing papers. The California Secretary of State's Elections Division is also a great resource and can be reached at (916) 657-2166 or http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections 3) Submit the filing papers within 113-88 days prior to the election (most California elections use the 113-88 day filing window). You will then be able to appear on the ballot! This county position goes through a June primary, meaning that this June date is the first election for candidates that want to appear on the ballot. If a candidate wins the June primary by a simple majority vote (more than 50%), that candidate will be elected into office for this position. If no candidate wins a simple majority vote in the June primary, the top two vote getters will advance to the November general election. In this case, the candidate with more votes in the November general election will be elected into office for this position.
