Description

The Circuit Court also has jurisdiction over attachments, adoptions, divorce proceedings, disputes concerning wills, trusts and estates, and controversies involving property. In criminal cases, the Circuit Court has jurisdiction over the trial of all felonies and of those misdemeanors that were appealed from district court or a grand jury indictment. The Circuit Court also has jurisdiction over juveniles who are charged with felonies and whose cases have been transferred or certified by the judge of a Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court for trial in Circuit Court. The Clerk of the Circuit Court is shared between Arlington County and the City of Falls Church, and serves an 8-year term.

Application Guidelines

The offices of the Commonwealth’s Attorney and the Clerk of the Circuit Court are shared between the City oFalls Church and Arlington County. To file for these positions follow these three simple steps: 1) Read the candidate bulletin for the office you seek at http://www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-info/candidate-bulletins/index.html. Verify that you qualify for the position. You must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia for one year immediately preceding the election, and be resident of the City oFalls Church or Arlington County at the time of filing. Contact the clerk of the governing body to confirm that you are qualified for the position. 2) Complete the appropriate filing papers, which can be found on the Department of Elections website herehttp://www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-info/candidate-forms/index.html. Candidates must complete the Certificate of Candidate Qualification, the Declaration of Candidacy form, the Petition of Qualified Voter form, the Statement of Economic Interests form, and the Statement of Organization form. 3) Submit these forms after January 1st of the election year and before the filing deadline in June to the Arlington County Elections office: 2100 Clarendon Blvd Ste 320 Arlington, VA 22201-5445.
