The Commissioner of the Revenue’s responsibilities primarily correlate to the assessment of certain taxes. Because the Commissioner is elected by citizens and accountable solely to their constituents and the state, the position serves as a check and balance for fair taxation by governments under direct authorities granted by the State.The Office of the Commissioner is responsible for assessing the business licenses tax, the Business Tangible Personal property tax, the Personal Property Tax (Vehicles), the prepared food meals tax, the short-term rental tax and the transient occupancy tax. The Commissioner of the Revenue is a locally elected state constitutional office serving in 4 year terms.

Verify that you qualify for the position. You must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia for one year immediately preceding the election, and be resident of the City oFalls Church at the time of filing. Contact the the clerk of the city council to verify that you fulfill the requirements and to ask further questions. 2) Complete the appropriate filing papers, which can be found on the Department of Elections website herehttp://www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-info/candidate-forms/index.html. City council candidates must complete the Certificate of Candidate Qualification, the Declaration of Candidacy form, the Petition of Qualified Voter form, the Statement of Economic Interests form, and the Statement of Organization form. 3) Submit these forms after January 1st of the election year and before the filing deadline in June to the Office of Voter Registration and Elections Falls Church 300 Park Ave Rm 101 E Falls Church, VA 22046-3301.
