Description
The Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the Town. His/her power and authority are derived from the Town Charter and the general laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He/She presides over Town Council and has the same right to speak and vote as the other members.The seven-member Town Council establishes Town government policy, acts on local resolutions and ordinances, sets tax rates, approves the annual Town budget, appoint members to the town's boards, and provides policy guidance for the Town Manager. The members of the Town Council serves for 2-year terms.
Application Guidelines
To file for this position follow these three simple steps: 1) Read the candidate bulletin for the office you seek at http://www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-info/candidate-bulletins/index.html. Verify that you qualify for the position. You must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia for one year immediately preceding the election, and be resident of the Town of Hendon at the time of filing. 2) Complete the appropriate filing papers, which can be found on the Department of Elections website here http://www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-info/candidate-forms/index.html. Mayor and town council candidates must complete the Certificate of Candidate Qualification, the Declaration of Candidacy form, the Petition of Qualified Voter form, the Statement of Economic Interests form, and the Statement of Organization form. 3) Submit these forms after January 1st of the election year and before the filing deadline in June to the General Registrar of Fairfax County PO Box 10161 Fairfax, VA 22038-8061.Submit application to:
