Description

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors establishes county government policy, passes resolutions and ordinances, approves the budget, sets local tax rates, approves land use plans and makes appointments to various positions. Board members are elected for 4 year terms with unlimited terms. The chair presides at all meetings, and has all of the powers of a member, including one vote. The chair does not have veto power. The Chairperson recieves a salary of $100,000.

To file for this position follow these three simple steps: 1) Read the candidate bulletin for the office you seek at http://www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-info/candidate-bulletins/index.html. Verify that you qualify for the position. You must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia for one year immediately preceding the election, and be a resident of Fairfax County at the time of filing. If seeking a district seat on the Board of Supervisors, make sure you are a resident of the district you wish to represent. Contact the clerk of the Board of Supervisors to verify that you fulfill the requirements and to ask further questions. 2) Complete the appropriate filing papers, which can be found on the Department of Elections website here http://www.elections.virginia.gov/candidatepac-info/candidate-forms/index.html. If you are seeking a county-level position (including a position on the Board of Supervisors, the Clerk of the Circuit Court, the sheriff, or the Commonwealth's Attorney), you must complete the Certificate of Candidate Qualification, the necessary campaign finance documents, the appropriate Statement of Economic Interest form, the Declaration of Candidacy form, and the Petition of Qualified Voter form. 3) Submit these forms after January 1st of the election year and before the filing deadline in June to theGeneral Registrar of Fairfax County PO Box 10161 Fairfax, VA 22038-8061.
