Description

As the elected chief executive officer of the City and County of Honolulu, the Mayor wields large amounts of power in the form of veto power over the Honolulu City Council, the budget of Honolulu in excess of 1 billion dollars and as the overseer of numerous Honolulu Departments. Honolulu voters elect the Mayor to a 4 year term. A general municipal election is held every two years, with the Mayor up for election every other election. The Mayor may only be elected to two four year terms.

Application Guidelines
1) Contact the Hawaii Office of Elections in order to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for and to confirm that you meet other office specific qualifications. Nomination papers are available online with more information at http://elections.hawaii.gov/candidates/candidate-filing/. 2) Complete the nomination papers including the signature requirements.The amount of signatures required varies between 15 and 25 by office. Additionally, there is an office specific filing fee. Filing fees can be reduced with a form known as an Affidavit of Compliance with Voluntary Campaign Spending Limits.
