Description

The Attorney General of Ohio an elected executive position in the Ohio state government. The attorney general provides legal representation and advice to all state government departments, agencies and commissions, provides legal opinions at the request of other public officials and handles all criminal appeals from state trial courts. The attorney general is popularly elected every four years in midterm elections and is limited to two consecutive terms in office. The attorney general has three primary duties: responsible for legal business of Ohio state government and its departments, boards and agencies and for the collection of debts owed to the state; enforcement authority in consumer protection, charitable solicitation, antitrust actions and organized crime; coordinate with local law enforcement agencies at their request and provide criminal justice support services. The salary for this position is $109,986/year.

The required forms include a Declaration of Candidacy; a filing fee; Petitions; and other office specific forms. The filing fee and petition requirements vary by office. Please inquire about these office specific requirements with the elections office. File these papers as directed by the elections office, which may vary depending upon the type of district you plan to run in. If the district encompasses a single part of a county, you will file with the county. If the district has parts of multiple counties you will file with the Ohio Secretary of State Elections Office. 3) Submit the filing forms by the 90th day before the Ohio primary election if you intend to appear on a partisan primary ballot. If you plan to run as an independent or in a non partisan race, submit the filing forms prior to the day of the Ohio primary in order to appear on the general election ballot. The Ohio primary is held the second Tuesday after the first Monday in March during presidential years, and in all other years the Ohio primary is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in the month of May.
