Description

The Lieutenant Governor of the State of Ohio is an elected constitutional officer, the second ranking officer of the executive branch and the first officer in line to succeed the Governor of Ohio. The lieutenant governor is popularly elected every four years by a plurality and is limited to two consecutive terms. The lieutenant governor's primary responsibility is to preside over the Ohio State Senate. Additionally, the lieutenant governor is required to complete the duties assigned to him by the governor. The lieutenant governor becomes governor if the governor resigns, dies in office or is removed by impeachment. The lieutenant governor has such other responsibilities and duties as the governor shall assign. The salary for this position is $78,041/year.

The required forms include a Declaration of Candidacy; a filing fee; Petitions; and other office specific forms. The filing fee and petition requirements vary by office. Please inquire about these office specific requirements with the elections office. File these papers as directed by the elections office, which may vary depending upon the type of district you plan to run in. If the district encompasses a single part of a county, you will file with the county. If the district has parts of multiple counties you will file with the Ohio Secretary of State Elections Office. 3) Submit the filing forms by the 90th day before the Ohio primary election if you intend to appear on a partisan primary ballot. If you plan to run as an independent or in a non partisan race, submit the filing forms prior to the day of the Ohio primary in order to appear on the general election ballot. The Ohio primary is held the second Tuesday after the first Monday in March during presidential years, and in all other years the Ohio primary is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in the month of May.
