Description

The North Carolina Commissioner of Insurance is an elected state executive position in the North Carolina state government. The commissioner is the head of the North Carolina Department of Insurance, serves as a member of the Council of State, and is also the State Fire Marshall. The commissioner of insurance acts as head of the Department of Insurance, serves on the Council of State, and is State Fire Marshall. The office was created by the North Carolina Legislature in 1899 to oversee the insurance industry. It is now responsible for a number of areas, including regulating the insurance industry, licensing insurance professionals, educating consumers, and handling complaints. The salary for this position is $124,676/year.

Gather the appropriate candidacy filing petition from the North Carolina State Board of Elections or your county board of elections. County boards are the filing agency for State Senators, Members of the State House of Representatives and all county and local/municipal offices. For all other offices, the petitions are to be filed with the North Carolina State Board of Elections. 2) Obtain the required amount of signatures for the office that you are seeking. The amount of signatures required varies depending upon office. Questions related to petition signature requirements should be referred to the North Carolina Board of Elections. 3) Submit your filing papers to the state board of elections prior to the last Friday in June, which is the deadline for independent (unaffiliated) candidates.
