Description

The Attorney General of Mississippi is the chief legal officer and advisor for the state of Mississippi. The attorney general bears responsibility for advising the state on civil and criminal matters, representing public officials and governmental agencies and interpreting state law through the issuance of legal opinions. The attorney general is elected every four years, in the odd-numbered years preceding a presidential election. He or she is not restricted to term limits. The attorney general serves as the chief legal officer and advisor for Mississippi. They are responsible for advising on both civil and criminal legal matters. The officeholder is aided by a staff of attorneys, investigators and office personnel. Other duties of the office include: represent public officials and government agencies; issue legal opinions that interpret state law; act as counsel to state agencies to defend them or bring suit on their behalf; represent the people of the state of Mississippi. The salary for this position is $108,960/year.

Obtain the correct candidacy filing paperwork. 2) Complete the required candidacy paperwork including the appropriate campaign finance forms, and if you plan to run as an independent a nominating petition form. If you plan to run as a partisan candidate please contact your local party office for further instructions as the filing window will differ from the independent candidate filing window. 3) If you plan to run as an independent candidate, submit the nominating certificate with the stipulated amount of verified signatures to the Mississippi Secretary of State Elections Division by the filing deadline. The amount of required nominating petition signatures varies by office. The filing deadline for independents is 60 days before the general election and signatures may not be collected before January 1st the year of the election.
