Description

The Sheriff of San Francisco is charged with overseeing over 850 sworn members in the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Department represents the City and the County of San Francisco and is comprised of four divisions: Administration and Programs, Custody, Field Support and Services, and Management. The Sherriff’s Department operates the county jail system, which manages eight jails. They also serve as security and law enforcement to courts, City Hall, various hospitals, and the Emergency Communications and Dispatch Center. The department manages several field service units ranging from the Patrol Division, to Investigations, to the Special Response Team. It should be noted that the Sheriff’s Department is separate from the San Francisco Police Department, which provides the primary law enforcement services for the city. The Sherriff serves a four-year term with no limit on the number of terms served. The salary of this position is $224,426 per year.

You should also verify that you meet any other requirements (for example, living within the district for a specified amount of time prior to the election). Most county elections departments understand that first time candidates may have some additional questions or concerns, and they will answer questions when you are picking up your paperwork, or will allow you to schedule an appointment to speak with someone. 2) Obtain the appropriate filing papers from the county elections office and complete the paperwork required. If there is any difficulty in connecting with this office, contact the California Secretary of State's Elections Division at (916) 657-2166 or http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections to help obtain the correct contact information for your county elections department. 3) Submit the candidacy papers within the 113-88 day filing window prior to the election. If you have any questions regarding running for this position, contact the San Francisco Board of Elections at (415) 554-4375 or http://sfgov.org/elections/ or the California Secretary of State Elections Division as soon as possible. There is a filing fee of $500, however if 1,000 signatures are gathered, the fee is waived. The filing fee is reduced by .50 for each valid signature gathered and signatured must be submitted within the specified window. The period for submitting petitions in lieu of the filing fee is 5/31/2019 to 7/25/2019.
