Description

Made up of 100 members, the Iowa House of Representatives is the lower chamber in the Iowa General Assembly. Each member represents a district of about 30,464 residents, serving two year terms not subject to term limits. The Iowa House has 19 standing committees that range from Agriculture to Veterans Affairs. Primary responsibilities of a Representative include: enacting laws, overseeing programs enacted by the executive branch, holding hearings on policies, allocating funds to pay for the daily workings of the state, and redistricting in collaboration with other Representatives and the Senate. Iowan Representatives earn a yearly salary of $25,000.

Application Guidelines
1) Contact the Office of the Iowa Secretary of State to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, and that you meet other office specific qualifications. Obtain the required filing forms. 2) Complete the required filing forms and submit the filing forms to the Office of the Iowa Secretary of State. The required forms include an Affidavit of Candidacy, Nominating papers, campaign finance forms and other office specific forms. 3) To run as an independent, candidates must submit filing forms between the 99th and 81st days before the general election in order to appear on the ballot.
