Description

Made up of 50 members, the Indiana State Senate is the upper chamber in the Indiana Legislature. Each member represents a district of about 129,676 residents, serving four year terms not subject to term limits. The Lieutenant Governor of Indiana presides over the Senate as the President of the Senate and is responsible for ensuring that the Senate rules are followed by its members although he may not vote expect to break ties. The Indiana Senate has 23 standing committees that rage from agriculture to veterans affairs. Primary responsibilities of a senator include: developing budget packages, making taxation decisions, passing legislation, allocating spending, and redistricting in collaboration with other senators and the house of representatives. Indiana Senators earn a yearly salary of $24,140.16.

Application Guidelines
1) Contact the Indiana Election Division to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, and that you meet other office specific qualifications. Obtain the required filing forms. 2) Complete the required filing forms and submit the filing forms to the Indiana Election Division. The required forms include a Declaration of Candidacy, Nominating Petitions, A Statement of Economic Interest and other office specific forms. 3) To run as an independent, candidates must submit filing forms between January 10th, 2018 (118 days before the primary election) and June 30th, 2018 (June 30th by law) to appear on the general election ballot.
