Made up of 100 members, the Arkansas House of Representatives is the lower house of a bicameral Arkansas State Legislature. Each member represents a districts of about 29,159 residents, serving 2 year terms not to exceed more than 16 years in either or both legislative chamber. The Speaker of the House, elected every 2 years by the House, presides over the body with duties that include supervising and directing the daily order of business, deciding all questions of order, preserving order in the House, and certifying all measures passed. The Arkansas House of Representatives has 10 standing committes split in half into A and B categories with each Representative serving on one A committee and one B committee that rage from Academic Facilities Oversight to Girls State to Veterans' Home Task Force. Each of the 10 committees also have a number of subcommittees. Primary responsibilities of a Representative include: enacting laws, overseeing programs enacted by the executive branch, holding hearings on policies, allocating funds to pay for the daily workings of the state, and redistricting in collaboration with other Representatives and the Senate. The yearly salary for the Arkansas House of Representatives is approximately $39,400.

Application Guidelines
To file for this position follow these three steps: 1) Contact the Arkansas Secretary of State Election Division's office to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, and that you meet other office specific qualifications. 2) Complete the required candidacy paperwork including a filing fee, campaign finance forms, candidate information, a political practice pledge and other office specific requirements. The type of forms to be submitted differ depending on the type of position you intend to run for. If you plan to run as member of a political party, you must submit a receipt from the political party acknowledging you are able to run as a member of that party. Independent candidates must submit petitions with a stipulated number of signatures (in place of a political party receipt). Once completed, file these papers with the Arkansas Secretary of State Election Division office. 3) Submit the filing paperwork with the stipulated amount of signatures during the filing window to the Arkansas Secretary of State Election Division's Office in order to appear on the ballot. The filing window runs from the 1st Monday in November until the 2nd Monday in November prior to the election.
