U.S. Representative (AZ-9)

Description

There are 435 U.S. Representatives in the United States that comprise the House of Representatives, otherwise known as the United States Congress. U.S. Representatives are responsible for drafting and voting on federal laws for the United States. The work of preparing and considering legislation is done by standing congressional committees, and in addition there are special committees as well as joint committees (committees with U.S. Representatives and Senators). Federal funding bills originate in the House of Representative, and the House of Representatives is responsible for carrying out impeachment proceedings. Congressional bills, after having been passed by the Senate and House of Representatives, must be signed by the president of the United States within 10 days of their submission, or they become law automatically, unless Congress is not in session. If vetoed by the president, a bill may become law only by its repassage by a two-thirds majority in each house. The Constitution requires a regular annual meeting of Congress, which begins on Jan. 3 each year. The proceedings of each house are recorded in the Congressional Record, and U.S. Representatives have offices in Washington D.C. and their home districts to address concerns of citizens in their districts. U.S. Representatives earn a yearly salary of approximately $174,000.

Inquire as to whether the position has a primary election before the general election. 2) Complete the required filing papers and submit the required filing papers to the Arizona Secretary of State office. The filing papers must be accompanied by candidate nomination petitions. 3) Submit the required filing papers accompanied by candidate nomination petitions between 120 and 90 days prior to the primary election.
