Description

The Arizona Senate comprises the upper house of the bicameral Arizona State Legislature. There are 30 members within the Senate, each of whom represent their respective districts. There are an estimated 213,067 constituents per senator. The senate is lead by the house elected president of the senate. Primary responsibilities of a senator include: developing budget packages, making taxation decisions, passing legislation, and allocating spending. Additionally, the senate has the exclusive authority to try officials impeached by the house in addition to authorizing certain executive appointments. The senate also has authority to confirm or reject appointments to state commissions, boards, and the cabinet. There are 15 standing committees within the senate ranging from Commerce and Workforce Development, to Health and Human Services, to Transportation. Each senator serves on or leads various committees within the senate. Senators serve a two-year term, with a limit of four terms. The salary of this position is $24,000 per year, in addition to $25 of per diem for every day in session.

The filing papers must be accompanied by candidate nomination petitions. 3) Submit the required filing papers accompanied by candidate nomination petitions between 120 and 90 days prior to the primary election.
