Made up of 25 members, the Hawaii State Senate is the upper chamber of the Hawaii State Legislator. Each member represents a district of about 54,412 residents, serving four year terms not subject to term limits. The President of the Senate is elected by the membership of the body to procide over the chamber. The Hawaii Senate has 16 standing committees that rage from agriculture to water and land. Primary responsibilities of a senator include: developing budget packages, making taxation decisions, passing legislation, allocating spending, and redistricting in collaboration with other senators and the house of representatives. The yearly income for a Hawaii Senator is $59,004.

Application Guidelines
1) Contact the Hawaii Office of Elections in order to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for and to confirm that you meet other office specific qualifications. The Application for a Nomination Paper is available online along with more information at http://elections.hawaii.gov/candidates/candidate-filing/. 2) Complete the nomination papers including the signature requirements.The amount of signatures required varies between 15 and 25 by office. Additionally, there is an office specific filing fee. Filing fees can be reduced with a form known as an Affidavit of Compliance with Voluntary Campaign Spending Limits.
