Description

The Long Beach City Attorney's Office consists of 64 employees, including 20 attorneys. The duties of the office are set forth in the city's charter, which provides that the Long Beach City Attorney shall be the sole and exclusive legal advisor of the city, city council and all city commissions, committees, officers and employees. The Long Beach City Attorney's office has municipal legal responsibilities as complex as any in the state, due to the fact that Long Beach is a "full-service city", which means it provides nearly all of its own municipal services, such as: municipal water, animal control, a Gas and Oil Department, the Long Beach Health & Human Services Department, sanitation and recycling services through the Environmental Services Bureau in the Public Works Department, police department, fire department, and other traditional city services. The City of Long Beach employees nearly 6,000 full and part-time personnel in approximately 700 different job classifications. The Long Beach City Attorney earns a salary of approximately $272,00/year.
