Description

The combined clerk, assessor, clerk of the district court, and register of deeds fulfills many county functions. As clerk, this officer keeps legislative history, vital records, and other official documents. As assessor, they determine the value of property for tax purposes. As clerk of the district court, they file and maintain legal documents. Lastly, as register of deeds, they keep records of real estate transactions and ownership.

Application Guidelines
If you would like to be included on the ballot for county office, follow these three steps. 1) Contact the county clerk or election commissioner. This office can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer questions regarding nominating petitions and other ballot procedures. 2) Arrange to pick up required paperwork. 3) Return your completed paperwork within the designated filing window. The September deadline is for general election candidates who file by petition. Non-incumbent primary candidates must file by March 1.
