Description

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court is the general governing body of Tarrant County. The Court is made up of the County Judge who is elected countywide and presides over the full Court, and the four County Commissioners -- each elected from one of the County's four precincts. The four County Commissioners have both countywide and precinct responsibilities. Each commissioner is responsible for construction and maintenance of County roads within his or her precinct. Commissioners maintain offices both at the Administration Building and within their precincts. They are responsive to the particular needs of people living within their areas of the County. In Tarrant County, each member of Commissioners Court serves as a liaison to a particular board or agency of the County such as the Hospital District. Salary: $143,634

Application Guidelines

1) Contact the County Judge or Elections Department of the county you reside in to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, and that you meet any other office specific qualifications (often, you must live in the district that you are looking to run for office in for a minimum of one year). 2) Complete the application and fulfill any signature requirements or prepare a filing fee. If you have questions regarding this paperwork, the best thing to do is to call the County Elections office or (even better) schedule an appointment with them regarding any questions. Most elections offices are happy to schedule time for candidates, and it is generally understood that first time candidates will have more questions. 3) Submit the application accompanied by either the application fee or nominating papers within 108-78 days prior to the election.
