Description
The voters of each Justice of the Peace and Constable Precinct elect the Constable every four years. It is the Constable's duty to execute and return all process, warrants, summons, and judgment enforcement documents as directed by lawful officials. The Constable may seize and sell real and personal property upon lawful order of a court, returning the proceeds according to law. Constables are Texas Peace Officers and may arrest, with or without a warrant, violators of state penal laws and persons who commit breaches of the peace in their presence.
Application Guidelines
1) Contact the County Judge or Elections Department of the county you reside in to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, and that you meet any other office specific qualifications (often, you must live in the district that you are looking to run for office in for a minimum of one year). 2) Complete the application and fulfill any signature requirements or prepare a filing fee. If you have questions regarding this paperwork, the best thing to do is to call the County Elections office or (even better) schedule an appointment with them regarding any questions. Most elections offices are happy to schedule time for candidates, and it is generally understood that first time candidates will have more questions. 3) Submit the application accompanied by either the application fee or nominating papers within 108-78 days prior to the election. The Texas Secretary of State's elections department is also an excellent resource for election/candidacy questions and can be reached at (512) 463-5650 or http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/candidates/index.shtmlSubmit application to:
