The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's office consists of two central divisions: Criminal and Civil. The Criminal Division consists of a number of different specialties within the Division, each dealing with a specific facet of the Office's prosecution responsibilities. Each of these individual groups brings its own particular expertise and experience to that portion of the Office's responsibilities which it is designed to address. These include: Intake; Grand Jury; Felony Courts; Juvenile; Misdemeanor Courts; Post-Conviction; White Collar Crimes; Specials Victims; Family Violence; Worthless (Hot) Checks; and Gang. The Civil Division acts as General Counsel for Tarrant County and its elected or appointed officials providing legal advice. These officials include the Commissioners Court, the sheriff, the district and county clerks, the county auditor, and the purchasing agent, among others. Civil prosecutors advise these officials on the legal aspects of their governmental obligations. Civil attorneys represent and defend Tarrant County and its officials in all aspects of civil litigation. Application Guidelines
1) Contact the County Judge or Elections Department of the county you reside in to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, and that you meet any other office specific qualifications (often, you must live in the district that you are looking to run for office in for a minimum of one year). 2) Complete the application and fulfill any signature requirements or prepare a filing fee. If you have questions regarding this paperwork, the best thing to do is to call the County Elections office or (even better) schedule an appointment with them regarding any questions. Most elections offices are happy to schedule time for candidates, and it is generally understood that first time candidates will have more questions. 3) Submit the application accompanied by either the application fee or nominating papers within 108-78 days prior to the election. The Texas Secretary of State's elections department is also an excellent resource for election/candidacy questions and can be reached at (512) 463-5650 or http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/candidates/index.shtml
