Description

The board of commissioners has a variety of executive and legislative powers under Indiana law. Commissioners manage administrative matters—appointing board members and some staff, administering contracts, and implementing policy. In most counties (Marion, Lake, and St. Joseph excepted), commissioners may also pass ordinances related to traffic, housing, elections, town boundaries, and county employee benefits.
