The council is the legislative body of the county. Council members set policy for county government—passing budgets, creating programs, and appointing or confirming nominations to advisory boards. The council may elect some of its members to leadership positions, such as president, which are usually held for one-year terms.
Application GuidelinesIf you would like to be included on the ballot for county office, follow these three steps. 1) Contact the county board of elections. The elections department can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer questions regarding nominating petitions and other ballot procedures. 2) Arrange to pick up required paperwork. 3) Return your completed paperwork within the designated filing window.
