Description

In Virginia, the clerk of the circuit court fulfills a wide array of administrative and judicial duties. The clerk serves as the recorder of deeds (maintaining land records), the register of probate (handling wills and guardianship matters), and general administrator of the court. The clerk creates and maintains court files, prepares court orders and jury lists, and issues summons and court processes.

Application Guidelines
If you would like to be included on the ballot for county office, follow these three steps. 1) Contact the county general registrar. The registrar’s office can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer questions regarding nominating petitions and other ballot procedures. 2) Arrange to pick up required paperwork. 3) Return your completed paperwork within the designated filing window. The filing deadline listed is for independent candidates. Candidates who wish to be run as part of a major party must meet earlier deadlines in order to participate in the primary election.
