Description

The sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer for the county. The sheriff oversees the county’s law enforcement department, including deputies and administrative support. County sheriffs typically enforce the law in unincorporated areas within a county, but they also will sometimes provide law enforcement services to municipalities that do not have their own police departments. County sheriffs are in charge of county jails. They are sometimes called upon to serve subpoenas, protection orders, and eviction notices.

Application Guidelines
If you would like to be included on the ballot for county office, follow these three steps. 1) Contact the county general registrar. The registrar’s office can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer questions regarding nominating petitions and other ballot procedures. 2) Arrange to pick up required paperwork. 3) Return your completed paperwork within the designated filing window. The filing deadline listed is for independent candidates. Candidates who wish to be run as part of a major party must meet earlier deadlines in order to participate in the primary election.
