Sussex County Clerk of the Peace

Description

The clerk of the peace is responsible for issuing marriage licenses and conducting ceremonies. The clerk may attend county meetings or be the custodian of certain county records.

Application Guidelines

If you would like to be included on the ballot for county office, follow these three steps. 1) Contact the county department of elections. The department can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer questions regarding nominating petitions and other ballot procedures. 2) Arrange to pick up required paperwork. 3) Return your completed paperwork within the designated filing window. September 1 is the deadline to file as a candidate unaffiliated with any party. Democrat and Republican candidates must adhere to an earlier deadline in July, minor party candidates must be nominated by August 1, and unaffiliated candidates may not circulate petitions to get on the ballot after July 15.
