Although the lieutenant governor does not have an official legislative role, the position requires strategy development and execution of initiatives in regards to various state endeavors, particularly those endorsed by the governor. Furthermore, it is the primary responsibility of the lieutenant governor to serve in the interim for the governor in the case of death, resignation, or other absence. The lieutenant governor serves a four-year term, and while there is no limit on the number of times a Florida lieutenant governor may serve, after serving two sequential terms, that individual must remain out of office for at least one election cycle to regain eligibility. The salary of the position is $124,851 per year.
