Description

The Governor of the State of Tennessee is an elected constitutional officer, the head of the executive branch and the highest state office in Tennessee. The Governor is popularly elected every four years by a plurality and is limited to two consecutive terms. The Governor is the head of the executive branch of Tennessee's government and the commander-in-chief of the state's military forces. The governor has a duty to enforce state laws and the state constitution. The governor is also the keeper of the Great Seal of the State of Tennessee. According to Article III of the Tennessee Constitution, other duties and privileges of the office include: Granting reprieves and pardons, except in cases of impeachment; Requiring written information from any officer of an executive department on any aspect of that officer's department or duties; Convening extraordinary sessions of the legislature, provided she proclaims the purposes and limitations of the special session when she calls it; Periodically addressing the General Assembly concerning the state of the state and making recommendations for legislation; Signing and sealing all commissions granted by the state of Tennessee; Vetoing bills and joint resolutions, subject to a majority override of the state legislature. The salary for this position is $181,980/year.

Obtain the necessary candidate filing paperwork. 2) If you are running for a federal position, complete the required filing forms and submit the filing forms to the Tennessee Division of Elections. Be sure to also submit a duplicate set of forms to the Tennessee Coordinator of Elections. If you are running for a state position, complete the required filing forms and submit the filing forms to the County Election Commission in which you reside. Be sure to also file duplicate forms with any and all other County Election Commissions within the district. 3) Submit the filing forms between the date in early January determined by the coordinator of elections and the first Thursday in April at noon in order to appear on either a partisan primary or as an independent on the general election ballot.
