The Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce is an elected state executive position in the Mississippi state government. The commissioner is elected to a four-year term. The Department of Agriculture and Commerce regulates and promotes state agri-business and its products. The Department of Agriculture and Commerce states that its mission is "to regulate and promote agricultural-related businesses within the state and to promote Mississippi's products throughout both the state and the rest of the world for the benefit of all Mississippi citizens." The salary for this position is $90,000/year.

To file for this position follow these three steps: 1) Contact the Mississippi Secretary of State Elections Division to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, and that you meet other office specific qualifications. Obtain the correct candidacy filing paperwork. 2) Complete the required candidacy paperwork including the appropriate campaign finance forms, and if you plan to run as an independent a nominating petition form. If you plan to run as a partisan candidate please contact your local party office for further instructions as the filing window will differ from the independent candidate filing window. 3) If you plan to run as an independent candidate, submit the nominating certificate with the stipulated amount of verified signatures to the Mississippi Secretary of State Elections Division by the filing deadline. The amount of required nominating petition signatures varies by office. The filing deadline for independents is 60 days before the general election and signatures may not be collected before January 1st the year of the election.
