Missouri Governor

Description

The Governor of the State of Missouri is an elected constitutional officer, the head of the executive branch and the highest state office in Missouri. The Governor is popularly elected every four years by a plurality and is limited to two terms. Missouri's governor is commander-in-chief of the state military forces in the state of Missouri. The governor appoints department heads and members of boards and commissions, including issuing, signing, and sealing the commission. Additionally, the governor has power the to grant reprieves, commutations and pardons, after conviction, for all offenses except treason and cases of impeachment. Specifically, the governor's pardon power does not include a power to parole. Excepting bills to convene or adjourn and proposed Constitutional Amendments, all bills requiring the concurrence of both chambers must be presented to the Governor. In extraordinary circumstances, he may convene special sessions of the legislature. At the start of each regular legislative session, at the end of the governor's term, and at other time she deems prudent, the governor shall address the legislature on the state of the state and make recommendations. Other duties and privileges of the office include: Making all appointments not otherwise provided for by law, submitting a budget to the legislature within 30 days of the start of each session, exercising a line-item veto on appropriations bills, and reducing state expenditures in line with revenue. The salary for this position is $133,821.

1) Contact the Missouri Secretary of State's Office Elections Division to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, that you meet other office specific qualifications and inquire as to if the application has a fee. 2) Complete the filing forms and file them with the Missouri Secretary of State's Office Elections Division. Forms differ for partisan and nonpartisan candidates. Partisan candidates will likely participate in a primary while independent candidates must acquire a stipulated amount of petitions signatures. Nonpartisan positions file differently as well. 3) File the filing forms with the Missouri Secretary of State Elections Division. If you plan to run in a partisan primary, the filing window is from February 23rd, 2016 to March 29th, 2016. If you plan to run as an independent, the deadline to file is August 1st, 2016, the fifteenth Monday immediately preceding the general election. The nonpartisan position filing window for the November general elections is from July 19th, 2016 to August 23rd, 2016.
