The Lieutenant Governor of the State of Indiana is an elected constitutional officer, the second ranking officer of the executive branch and the first officer in line to succeed the Governor of Indiana. The lieutenant governor is popularly elected every four years by a plurality. The lieutenant governor also serves as president of the Indiana State Senate. Like the governor the lieutenant governor must uphold the state constitution and laws of Indiana. The lieutenant governor of Indiana serves as acting governor when the governor becomes incapacitated or, in the state's early history, when the governor was away from the capitol. They have such other responsibilities and duties as the governor shall assign. The salary for this position is $88,543.
