Description

The Mayor of the District of Columbia serves as the highest official within the executive branch of Washington, D.C. The Mayor is expected to speak and act on behalf of the government and the community. Primary responsibilities of the Mayor involve: proposing a budget, signing legislation into law, overseeing city operations, and acting as a representative on behalf of the government events. The Mayor is also charged with appointing various officers, including the Deputy Mayors for Education, Planning, and Economic Development, the City Administrator, the chancellor of the city’s public schools, and the department heads of agencies. The mayor serves a four-year term with no limit on the number of terms served. The salary of this position is $200,000.

Most elections board offices understand that first time candidates may have some additional questions or concerns, and they will answer questions when you are picking up your paperwork, or will allow you to schedule an appointment to speak with someone. 2) Obtain the appropriate filing papers from District of Columbia Board of Elections office and complete the paperwork required. Candidates must compete in the general primary to advance to the general election.
